Performance Measures and Standards

The Performance Measures for Student Success Report is the North Carolina Community College System’s (NCCCS) major accountability document. This annual performance report is based on data compiled from the previous year and serves to inform colleges and the public on the performance of our 58 community colleges. In 1993, the State Board of Community Colleges began monitoring performance data on specific measures to ensure public accountability for programs and services. In 1998, the General Assembly directed the State Board to review past performance measures and define standards to ensure programs and services offered by community colleges in North Carolina were of sufficient quality.

To facilitate the first three-year review of the measures, the Performance Measures Adjustment Committee was appointed to review the current set of measures and recommend deletions, revisions, and additions. This included individuals representing college leadership and research. The committee formally presented the following seven measures to the State Board in March 2015:

  • Basic skills student progress
  • Student success rate in college‐level English courses
  • Student success rate in college‐level math courses
  • First-year progression
  • Curriculum student completion
  • Licensure and certification passing rate
  • College transfer performance

The results of the College’s self-assessments are published in a variety of formats. These include the Annual Fact Book, a longitudinal, multi-year compilation of data that not only serves to inform the public about the College’s operations and the achievements of its students, but also as an often-used reference for internal planning and decision making. Finally, the College Catalog provides extensive detail about the College’s programs, policies, and employees.

Business and Information Technology

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) is a leading specialized accreditation association for business education that supports, celebrates, and rewards teaching excellence. ACBSP accredits business, accounting, and business-related programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master, and doctorate degree levels worldwide. Every quality business program worldwide is accredited. ACBSP also does the following:

  • Promotes continuous improvement and recognizes excellence in the accreditation of business education programs around the world
     
  • Acknowledges the importance of scholarly research and inquiry and believes that such activities facilitate improved teaching
     
  • Encourages faculty involvement within the contemporary business world to enhance the quality of classroom instruction and contribute to student learning
     
  • Offers an accreditation process uniquely focused on teaching excellence and student outcomes

  • The RHIT exam pass rate for the Health Information Technology program for the 2019-2020 reporting period is 100%.
  • For the reporting period of 2019-2020, the Health Information Technology program had an 82% graduation rate.
  • For the reporting period of 2019-2020, 87% of graduates were employed in a healthcare-related field within one year of graduation.

Medical Assisting

  • The Medical Assisting diploma program has an average retention rate of 86% for the past five years.
  • The Medical Assisting diploma program has a job placement rate of 64.71% for the graduate cohort in 2018.
