Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) East will fill numerous vacant positions during a direct-hire event on the Havelock campus of Craven Community College (Craven CC) from 8-11 a.m. this Friday, March 16.

“We are under a hiring surge,” said Terri Yandle, FRC-East human resources director. “We have a direct-hire authority and hope to find a lot of candidates.”

FRC-East provides maintenance and support for aircraft operations at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point. With a workforce of approximately 3,800 people and an annual payroll of $277 million, FRC-East is the largest employer in North Carolina east of Interstate 95.

Some of the positions that will be offered during the direct-hire event include: administrative support, aircraft engine repair, aircraft ordnance systems repair, aircraft oxygen equipment repairer, aircraft worker, composite worker, data management specialist, electronics integrated system mechanic, electroplater, industrial engineer, industrial engineering technician, information technology, instrument mechanic, logistics management specialist, machine tool operator, machinist, non-destructive testing inspector, painter, pneudraulics systems worker, production controller, sandblaster, sheet metal worker, tool machine operator, tools and parts attendant and welders.

“We’re targeting the industrial side of the house but we will include the IT positions and assistance positions,” added Yandle.

Applications will be accepted at Craven CC’s Institute of Aeronautical Technology (IAT), which provides workforce training and development for the civilian and military aviation maintenance community. The program provides individuals with the basic aircraft knowledge necessary for a career in Aviation Systems Technology and prepares individuals for airframe and power plant examinations administered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“We are fortunate that we have the college right there with an aeronautical school,” said Yandle. “We are marking some positions for the pathways, which will allow students to work and go through an apprentice program. We are also reaching out to recent graduates of the aeronautical program and candidates in the industrial fields. We have a challenging time finding those with industrial background.”

Craven CC is assisting with the event by providing event space, student ambassadors, logistical support and assistance with writing resumes.

“We have an excellent relationship with Craven Community College,” said Yandle. “They are more than helpful in trying to bridge gaps for us, accommodate training needs and building classes for those needs. They built the whole school around some of the work we do here. We have an excellent partnership that’s been growing through the years.”

The resume writing assistance sessions will be held from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 p.m. Thursday in room 130 of the Redd building, located on the Havelock campus. Fees related to resume assistance will be waived for anyone interested in attending these sessions.

“Our mission here is to give people jobs,” said Kim Zaccardeli, Craven CC coordinator of military programs. “We want to enhance, optimize and provide them with the best opportunity to get a job with this organization. Since anyone interested in applying for a job must bring a printed resume done on the USAJobs.gov website, we wanted to make sure that process was as easy as possible for those seeking employment.”

The completed USA Jobs applications will only be accepted from 8-11 a.m. to ensure eligible candidates are given enough time to interview that afternoon. All positions available in the direct-hire event are entry-level positions with the Federal government.

Craven CC will provide support for another job event March 20 as Craven County hosts its third annual Craven Works at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center. This is an employment resources and jobs event representing health care, manufacturing, education, retail, government and more. Craven CC will provide support during the event for those interested in creating or updating a resume, signing up for classes and more.
